President Ndayishimiye calls on civil servants to diversify sources of income

Back from Gitega, the political capital of Burundi, His Excellency President Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE accompanied with the First Lady stopped over in the Bugarama Zone of the Muramvya Commune where he visited a branch of the VASO cooperative in a corn field. The Head of State and the First Lady joined members of the VASO cooperative in Muramvya province to sow corn in a field in a field of one hectare.

After Bugarama, President Ndayishimiye went to the Gihosha Commune of the Bujumbura town hall; there also he visited a field exploited by the VASO cooperative of the Bujumbura town hall. The President of the Republic and the first plowed a surface on which will be planted potatoes before proceeding to
to sowing of the corn seeds in a field next to it.

Speaking to the press, President NDAYISHIMIYE returned to urging civil servants to engage in other activities useful for their homes after hours of duty. He said that since 2017 agriculture and livestock are activities that civil servants who are members of the VASO cooperative have put forward to increase family income. He pointed out that this has an impact on the financial health of households because the prices of basic necessities are sharply reduced thanks to production which is experiencing a significant jump. The President of the Republic, by joining forces with the members of this cooperative, wanted to lead by example.

As a reminder, the VASO cooperative which means “Valorisation of the soil” is an association made up of officials and intellectuals working in the different sectors of national life, whose objective is to practice modern agriculture and breeding after hours of duty. His Excellency Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE is one of the founding members and he never ceases to support this noble activity. Thus, in recognition of the members of this cooperative offered him two cows of improved breed.
