Burundi First Lady launches the “Miss Burundi” competition, 2021 edition


Her Excellency Angeline Ndayishimiye, First Lady of the Republic of Burundi, launches the Miss Burundi competition, 2021 edition. The ceremonies took place this Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at the Royal Palace Hotel, in Bujumbura City, under the theme “Celebrating the beauty and intelligence of the Burundian girl”.

In her address, Her Excellency Angeline Ndayishimiye, thanked the Ministry of Commerce, Transport, Industry and Tourism and the SS Entreprise Company for that initiative to organize that competition after almost 4 years of absence, as the last edition was held in 2017.

She urged the committee in charge of organizing the competition and the ministries with responsibility for Tourism and Culture, to work in synergy in order to accomplish this task with wisdom and transparency so that it can be a success and very inclusive.

The First Lady emphasized on the qualities that should characterize Miss Burundi, namely beauty and intelligence. Miss Burundi must also embody the cultural values ​​of the Burundian girl and woman .

Her Excellency Angeline Ndayishimiye informed that the Organization of African First Ladies for Development, OPDAD-Burundi, among its strategic axes, is the promotion of the rights and the economic empowerment of Burundian girls and women, a reason which motivated that organization to support this competition.

The First Lady invited provincial governors and university rectors to become actively involved in raising awareness among young girls to take part in this important event, without any discrimination.

She also invited parents to act beyond the prejudices and connotations attributed to the Miss competition and send their daughters to show their talents and the beauty of the Burundian girl, in order to represent other Burundian girls at the national and international levels.

It should be noted that registrations for the Miss Burundi 2021 edition begins on February 2, 2021 and the final will take place on April 10, 2021.
