President Ndayishimiye calls for the increase of industries processing local products

The Head of State, His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye accompanied with the First Lady Her Excellency Angeline Ndayishimiye, on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, launched the corn harvest in a field belonging to the VASO cooperatives operating in Bujumbura town.

After expressing satisfaction that the harvest was good in this 56 hectare field which produced more than 200 tons of maize, Burundi President made a strong appeal to Burundian businessmen to seek out markets abroad but also and above all to increase the local food processing industries with a view to make a good management of the harvest which is becoming more and more abundant in the country.

The Head of State is delighted that most Burundians no longer do subsistence agriculture, he hence urged the population to promote consuming local products, ”given that they are very nutritious compared to some products imported from abroad ”, he underlined.

The President of the Republic also expressed his satisfaction that the population, by investing in agriculture with certain high authorities of the country who have taken the lead, is bringing a contributing in the implementation of the program of government to feed every mouth and money in every pocket.

Note that the Representative of WFP in Burundi, Mr TAAL Housainou joined the Presidential Couple in order to lend a hand to this activity as did the Princess of Jordan Sarah Zeid at the time of sowing while visiting Burundi in October 2020.
